Child missing near Goodes Mill Lake recovered
Jackson County authorities have recovered the body of a child who went missing this afternoon.
Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. said about 4:30 p.m. that he was headed to the scene at Goodes Mill Lake near the Mississippi-Alabama state line.
Jackson County Emergency Management Director Earl Etheridge said officials got a call about 12:50 p.m. and learned a child was at the dock near Presley’s Outing Road, but had disappeared.
A dive team was sent to Goodes Mill Lake and Jackson County deputies and fire department were on scene searching both water and land.
Sheriff John Ledbetter told our media partner, the Sun Herald, that the child is about 4 years old and was last seen with family about 10 minutes before the sheriff’s office got the emergency call.
