Check Tire Pressure in Cold Weather

With temperatures dropping this week, your car tire pressure may also be dropping.

Hoover’s Complete Car Service tells News 25 drivers should try not to refill their tires when the temperatures are still low, but to wait until it warms back up. Once tires expand again in the warmer weather, drivers should check to see if they lost pressure during the cold time. Owner, Chris Hoover, says he constantly sees low tire pressure on cars in his shop, and it can be damaging to the car and simple to check.

Hoover says, “They do and it ruins their fuel mileage and it’ll ruin the tire too if you don’t keep up with it and you know, just having them checked at least once every couple of weeks would be a good thing. Usually it’s inside your driver door, you open it up and there’s a tag right on the door post that tells you minimum and maximum pressures you can set the tires to.”

You can check your tires at home with a tire pressure checker or at a tire pressure machine found at most gas stations.
