Charity tennis tournament for cats in Jackson County

The love of tennis is bringing two local organizations together to help cats find homes.

The Feral Feline Coalition and Kiwanis Club of Gautier/Ocean Springs is hosting a two-day charity tennis tournament taking place this Friday and Saturday.

The event is being held at the Ocean Springs Halstead Tennis Complex and proceeds will be going to help spay and neuter the stray cats in Jackson County.

Over 35 teams have now signed up for the two-day contest. There will be a food truck, men’s and women’s double division, and consolation prizes. Kiwanis Gautier/Ocean Springs Board Member Deede Torrance said, “You’re keeping the shelters from being overrun with cats because it controls the cat population and to my knowledge there’s not another one in Mississippi. But you know if you don’t have a no kill shelter they are euthanized and to me that’s just heart breaking. That’s not acceptable.”

Kittens will be available for adoption along with a silent auction and raffle items. So, head out there and watch some great tennis while also finding your next furry family member.
