Charged with assault on police officer

A man is facing charges for assaulting a police officer who was responding to a domestic-related incident yesterday.

Biloxi police say 23-year-old Elijah Smith has been charged with simple assault on an officer. Smith reportedly attempted to flee the scene of a domestic incident on Dr. Gilbert Mason Drive when police say he assaulted the officer responding to the scene.

The officer did not need medical attention.

Smith was taken into custody and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
