Changes to rail crossings in Biloxi underway

With the reoccurring issues of the railroad crossings in Biloxi, the city council recently made decisions on a couple of key issues, the consolidation of the six of the city’s 29 rail crossings being one of them.
The City of Biloxi has been given approval for the city to begin the process of closing six rail crossings, but it will take about a year for motorists to see any changes.
According to Biloxi Public Affairs, the Gilich administration has a commitment from the council to begin negotiations with CSX on seeking funding to help build or improve roads to connect crossings to adjoining crossings. Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “What we have is an engineering firm right now designing the roads that will be connecting those closed crossings with open crossings. We need something done now and we know that. There’s not a lot that we can do. We’re dealing with an agency, a business that is overseen by the state and federal governments. We have notified CSX. We’ve notified the National Transportation Safety Board.”
Creel explains no crossings would be closed until the connecting roads are in place to avoid creating any dead-end streets and to minimize inconvenience to motorists.
The rail crossings that will soon be permanently closed as the year goes on are Nixon, Holly, Iroquois, Dorries, Delauney Street, and Querens Avenue.
