Change of Command Ceremony at Naval Construction Training Center

Today was a big day for the Seabees in Gulfport. A change of command ceremony was held at the Naval Construction Training Center, which is responsible for training Seabees assigned to Gulfport-based battalions.

This ceremony is a time-honored tradition formally restating the authority of command.

Commander Matthew T. Williams is the departing commander welcoming the new commanding officer, Commander Weurielus Johnson.

The Naval change of command is a transfer of total responsibility, authority, and accountability. Commander Johnson said, “I understand the huge opportunity to develop your character, to develop your competency and to go forth and defend your country. From a young enlisted person, and now to have the opportunity to actually instill those same opportunities for others.”

Commander Johnson received his commission in 2002 after graduating from Old Dominion University.
