Ceremony held in celebration of Donate Life Month

Singing River Health System and the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, or MORA, came together to celebrate National Donate Life Month.

This morning, they gathered at the flag pole to hear stories of those affected by organ and tissue donations and to encourage organ donations.

After the ceremony, they walked a lap to remember those who have donated organs.

Right now, there are approximately 1,300 people waiting for organ donations. Every donor can save eight lives and enhance 75 more.

Seventeen people die each day waiting for an organ transplant.

Ellen Duvernay, the mother of a donor, spoke about losing her daughter, Brittany Saucier. She says because her daughter was an organ donor, she was able to save five lives. “I met the lady that received both of my daughter’s lungs and have formed a close relationship with her. Just seeing her living and enjoying her children, her grandchildren, and everything, it’s all because of Brittany’s gift of giving.”
