Centennial Plaza in Gulfport hosting Inaugural Gumbo Festival

The inaugural Gumbo Fest is set to take place this Saturday at Centennial Plaza in Gulfport where families can look forward to art vendors, kid activities, food truck, and lots of gumbo.

The festival will feature live entertainment with Grammy winner Cedric Burnside as the headliner, Amanda Shaw, Blackwater Brass, and Bon Bon Vivant.

The day will include a ‘Stir da Roux’ Gumbo Cookoff, homegrown and seasoned chefs will vie for the coveted title of ‘Best Overall Gumbo’ including cash prizes and trophies.

A friendly competition will also take place as our Coast mayors will be pitted against each other for the Mayor’s Cup during the gumbo cookoff. City of Gulfport Chief Administrative Officer Leonard Papania said, “You know we have so many great events that occur along our Coast. We are talking about the different opportunities that we have in Gulfport and especially on this property, Centennial Plaza, as we look around at this property. It’s just fantastic. I have been to other events here and so our team got together with Gulfport Main Street and just really pulled it together.”

The Gumbo Festival will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. It’s free to get in, but if you would like to enjoy the Gumbo Cookoff, it is $20.
