Celebrating student athletes at WXXV Student Athlete of the Week Banquet

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Wednesday night was all about honoring our student athletes across the Coast who have excelled both in the classroom and in the realm of sports.

The WXXV Student Athlete of the Week Banquet kicked off at Centennial Plaza Wednesday evening, bringing together former student athletes from throughout the academic school year.

Thirty-two different athletes from over 20 schools and 17 different sports were given awards and recognized for their success in academics and accomplishments in their sports.

At the end of the night, a special surprise as two student athletes received scholarships as they take their next step forward. Promise Parlett of St. Patrick received a $1,500 scholarship. Davis Ormes from Gulfport received a $1,000 scholarship.

For many of these athletes, it was a fulfilling night to be recognized for all their dedication.

The keynote speaker for the banquet was Cory McGee, an Olympian from Pass Christian who shared her experiences with the athletes as they take their next steps forward.
