Celebrating Easter at Gaston Point Recreational Center in Gulfport
Some Gulf Coast residents were able to get together again to celebrate Easter Sunday for the first time since the pandemic started.
Among the celebrations this weekend was one put on by Extend a Hand, Help a Friend over at the Gaston Point Recreational Center in Gulfport.
Saturday morning at Gaston Point Recreational Center was sunny, green, and filled with excited young voices. Hundreds of kids and parents in Ward 1 came out to observe the holiday.
News 25 stopped to talk to some of the kids out there about their Easter plans – and what the holiday means to them.
Kenni Casey and her friends Lanarryah Hilton and Mikayla Johnson gave us a rundown of everything happening that morning. “Easter egg hunt for the kids and stuff, but it’s for the community though. So, everybody can come out, enjoy food, we’ve got G-Mama’s truck over there – shout out to G-Mama. And yeah, so we’ve got all the parking stuff.
“And we got bounce houses over there, and we’ve got a little raffle for the baskets and stuff.
“They’ve got the Easter Bunny out here but he’s on his way. We’ve got food trucks and drinks and everything like that.”
Jaycee McCall intervened to tell us why it’s important that the community gets together at Gaston two years after the start of COVID. “It’s important for them to come around and get together so the world can be a better place.”
And finally, Braxton was kind enough to share his plans for Easter Sunday. “I’m gonna get a water slide for all my friends to come and join me.”
