Celebrate the Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year is a 15-day festival celebrated annually, depending on the sighting of the new moon.

Yesterday marked the beginning of the new year and Lee’s International Market on Division Street in Biloxi has everything needed for the festivities.

Items such as yellow chrysanthemums, bánh chưng and bánh tết, lucky money envelopes along with other traditional foods and items in stock.

Store Manager Tyler Ly says they aim to make their store a one-stop shop for imported goods across many countries. “People are always really surprised. They don’t expect us to have all of this stuff. A lot of people from base and stuff, they’ve been stationed around the world and they’ll be like ‘oh, we had this back in Japan and Korea and y’all carry it.’”

Each year in the lunar calendar is represented by one of the 12 Zodiac animals. This year is the year of the rabbit, symbolizing longevity, peace, and prosperity.
