Catholic Schools Week
It’s National Catholic Schools Week and Governor Phil Bryant has made a statewide proclamation in honor of approximately 7,800 students at the 31 Catholic schools in our state.
Throughout the week, those students and their teachers will enjoy a variety of events and activities as they celebrate the occasion.
This morning, News 25 stopped by St. James Elementary School in Gulfport to speak with students and faculty about the importance of Catholic Schools Week. Student Gabby Rizk said, “At St. James, not only do we have great teachers and academics, we get to embrace our faith every day.”
Student Jack Hewes said, “I love the mass. That helps me grow my faith. I love the religion classes. I love praying the rosary.”
St. James Principal Jennifer Broadus said, “This is also a week where we reach out to the community and say thank you for helping us to make our Catholic schools so successful and also bringing awareness to all of the wonderful things we have at our school.”
National Catholic Schools Week runs through February 3rd. This year’s theme is ‘learn, serve, lead, and succeed.’
