CASA of South Mississippi cuts ribbon on new building in Jackson County
JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- CASA of South Mississippi is opening a new chapter in its mission to give a voice to children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce helped officially open CASA’s new office with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The organization started in 1985 and outgrew its previous building as its program continues to grow.
Guests celebrated with breakfast, office tours, and meet-and-greets with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
The celebration also included an online auction featuring hand-made quilts from Quilts of Hope and jewelry from Park Lane, with proceeds supporting CASA’s mission. CASA Executive Director Frances Allsup said, “you know I never envisioned this because I started off as a one man show. So, to know that we’ve grown the size that we’ve grown serving three counties now, I never saw that. Only thing I was interested in was taking care of the kids in front of me and Jackson County has a large number of kids in custody almost 200. It’s a lot to serve, so we’re constantly pushing and recruiting volunteers from all walks of life to be that voice for these kids because they come first.”
CASA hopes its new space will help connect more community members with opportunities to support local children.
