Career Week at Dr. Gilbert Mason Sr. Head Start

Potential doctors who just might find the cure for the next generation’s diseases were among those at the Dr. Gilbert Mason Sr. Head Start Center in D’Iberville on day two of ‘Career Week,’ but today’s focus was on broadcast journalism.

“This week we have two special events. We have ‘Community Helpers Week’ and we’re also having ‘Dr. Seuss Week.’”

It was a picture perfect moment on day two of Career Week for the little ones enrolled at the Gilbert Mason Sr. Head Start in D’Iberville as we at WXXV News 25 met and mingled with these future leaders of tomorrow.

A scene that could have been taken off a page of a Dr. Seuss novel, but it wasn’t a ‘cat in the hat’ making all the fuss, rather an old news story, a batty encounter experienced by us, but not even a bat attack could throw these youngsters off course.

All fired up by WXXV Meteorologist Brantly Keiek to reach for the stars. “I knew from a really young age, when I was your age that I wanted to be a weather man.”

“And you never know. You might just be looking at the next network anchor!”

“…or Meteorologist!”

M.ED Tevin White said, “A lot of them, they know what they want to do. You can ask them and they’ll say ‘I want to be a firefighter’ or ‘I want to be a teacher like you’ so they kind of already know what they want to do.”

The take away, we all have room to grow and learn, even from the smallest of these, whether it’s life-saving or just a simple way to express your love.

The head start center holds ‘career week’ each year. On Wednesday, members from the Biloxi YMCA will visit the kids. On Thursday, the Mississippi Smiles Dentist Group will be on hand, and Friday will wrap with Harrison County’s Youth Court Judge.
