Capital murder trial moves into sentencing phase
Thirty-nine year-old Scotty Street is guilty of murdering 55-year-old Frankie Fairley and then stealing her van on December 9th, 2014.
The capital murder trial has moved into the sentencing phase in Jackson County Court. An autopsy showed the retired Lucedale teacher was stabbed 37 times before her body was found near her home in Hurley. Authorities say after he killed her, Street committed a robbery in D’Iberville.
During testimonies, Street’s family members claimed he had mental issues that may have affected his actions. One of Fairley’s thirteen children was also called to the stand and told the court the last words her mother said to her were “I love you.”
Fairley’s brother tells News 25 Frankie Fairley was known for her kindness and while she was alive her family was the center of her life. Thaddeus Fairley said, “With raising the family, it was a big family. So she just loved giving to the kids and doing what she could do for the children. It’s been hard. It’s been tough so, but by the grace of God, we’ve been able to get through, just going to miss her. We’ve been missing her over this time. It’s been a long road. It will be three years in December, but we’re glad to finally get to this point. The children are growing and they’re moving out to you know, just give them peace.”
