Canopy opens new school in Biloxi for students with special challenges

Community members and leaders gathered in Biloxi on Wednesday to celebrate the grand opening of the new Canopy CARES School.

In coordination with the Biloxi School District, Canopy held a special ribbon cutting ceremony at the old Lopez School campus to celebrate the opening of its latest facility. The school will provide specialized education for students whose behavioral challenges might prevent them from success in traditional classrooms.  Members and leaders from across the coast showed up to show their support for this monumental new opening.

“We’re just excited about this partnership that we have with the Canopy CARES School that we’ve opened here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It’s been a long time coming, something that we’ve had a tremendous need for in the education community and we’re excited about this partnership because its going to be able to serve every school district along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the students that need the specialized care that they can provide,” said Biloxi Public Schools Superintendent, Marcus Boudreaux.

Mississippi Congressman of the 4th District, Mike Ezell, attended the grand opening and expressed how excited the community was for this new chapter.

“Well its obvious when you see this many people from the community show up, they care. They want better for their kids, they want better for their friend’s children that have special needs, so just look around the room and you’ll see how everyone is happy and just having a great time to come out and support a great thing.”

The new Canopy CARES School in Biloxi is estimated to have a capacity of 70 students and is already currently serving 22 students from the surrounding area.
