Camper engulfed in flames halts traffic in Hancock County

A camper fire held up traffic last night on Interstate 10 in Hancock County.

West Hancock Fire Rescue arrived to the scene of the camper engulfed in flames at around 9:30 last night on I-10 east bound near exit 2.

Both lanes were closed for an hour with traffic backed up for several miles.

The driver of the camper spoke with News 25 and said he was traveling from his home to the VA Hospital in Biloxi. He made it out just in time before the flames engulfed his camper.

The driver says he just filled his tank up with about 40 gallons of gas and believes his generator caused the fire.

Fire crews used foam to put out the flames. No one was harmed as a result of this incident.
