Camp Aqua at the Mississippi Aquarium kicks off with first session of the summer
It’s time to dive into an exciting marine adventure as we take you to Camp Aqua where young campers are immersing themselves in the wonders of marine life.
Camp Aqua campers were eagerly awaiting their first day of camp for the summer season.
For day one, the kids participated in a quick introduction to the summer camp. Afterward they explored the aquarium and saw some of their favorite animals. Camper Tripp Paul said, “I can’t wait to see the fish and the dolphins, especially the sharks.”
Camper Rylee Paul said, “Sea turtles are just so fascinating. They’re just so cute and the baby sea turtles are just this big.”
The camp provides a one-of-a-kind experience for young adventurers. From learning about sea creatures to exploring marine habitats, this camp promises endless fun and education. Manager of Education Lizzy Whigham said, “We get to go around the aquarium before we open to guests. So, the kids have the run of the park until 10 a.m. They get to walk around, see all the animals, and watch them get fed by their trainers. We also get to go out to Ship Island and see the habitat where these animals are found in the wild.”
The camp is open to kids ages seven to 14 with six sessions total, the last session ends on July 28th. “We have a lot of counselors here who are passionate about the animals and tell the kids all of these cool things.”
Grandparent Michael Taylor said, “The interactions with the trainers and the animals and being on the beach and the availability to learn something this summer instead of staying at home playing video games.”
Parent John Stegall said, “We didn’t have this opportunity when I grew up, and it’s a great attraction, especially for the kids. It’s a great marine biology experience and a great science experience.”
