Camp Able visits comic book store
A group of kids of all abilities got to explore some super power abilities at a comic book shop in Long Beach today.
It’s one of the many fun activities scheduled this week for the kids of Camp Able, a summer camp that caters to children with special needs. The kids got to explore and take home all kinds of comic books from Long Beach Comics, owned by William Carpenter, a man with special needs himself.
Carpenter’s brother-in-law tells News 25 the owner of the store hopes to serve as a role model for the special needs kids, inspiring them to never give up on their dreams. Cameron Smith with Long Beach Comics said, “A role model is a very important part of a kid’s life, especially one with special needs. To have that kind of positive role model to really look up to, to look at their story and how they go about their lives, it’s a real sense of motivation for them.”
Camper Jamie Estis said, “Wonder Woman. (You got a Wonder Woman comic?) Yes ma’am. I had a lot of fun. It’s fun to get me out of the house.”
Camp Able wraps up tomorrow afternoon with a talent show.
