Cab Drivers Speak Out Against Motor Vehicle for Hire Authority

Taxi drivers in Biloxi are speaking out and people are starting to listen.

After Tuesday night’s emotional Biloxi City Council meeting, independent taxi drivers feel the Motor Vehicle for Hire commissioners are working against them, but they feel a vehicle authority is needed to safely regulate the taxi industry along the Coast. Independent taxi drivers, like Bryan Shaw, understand the need for regulations, but feel the Motor Vehicle for Hire Authority is catering toward the Yellow Cab services to push independent drivers out.

Shaw says, “Cab drivers spend an average of 12 to 15 hours a day in their cabs just trying to keep a roof over their head and put food on their table and this Motor Vehicle for Hire Authority, every time you turn around, is sucking money from us. It’s not acceptable.”
