Buying Christmas Trees From Local Farms
As many begin putting up their holiday decorations, the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce is urging residents to buy locally grown Christmas trees.
The Department of Agriculture has made finding a Christmas tree easy through mschristmastrees.com.
Through the website you can find which of the state’s 32 Christmas tree farms is closest to you.
A&W Christmas Tree Farm in Moss Point is one of four Christmas tree farms here in South Mississippi.
As the agritourism industry grows throughout the state, farms like A&W are creating an experience around finding the perfect tree for holiday festivities such as getting pictures taken in their old-fashioned buggy and taking a ride on the farm’s Christmas train.
In addition to supporting the local economy and environment, buying from Mississippi Christmas tree farms has other benefits as well.
Co-owner of A&W Christmas Tree Farm Wanda Clark said, “There is a national Christmas tree shortage, but people don’t really realize they’re talking about those Fraser firs they bring from up North. They’re cut a month or two before and they’ll die on you real easy. But Fraser firs are not grown down here. We have Virginia pine and Carolina sapphire.”
Opening day for A&W Christmas Tree Farm is Thanksgiving Day starting at 2pm.
