Businesses across South Mississippi ready for a rise in customers from the Super Bowl

With the stage now set for the Eagles and Chiefs in the Super Bowl, businesses across South Mississippi are getting ready to take advantage of the boom of fans in from New Orleans.

One of those being the Driftwood Motel in Bay St. Louis which has been putting its name out there as the place to stay if you’re heading to the Super Bowl, with its own special service to help get you there.

“It’s a perfect one night weekend getaway, 60 minutes for the residents of the New Orleans. We’re cashing in on it by reaching out to both teams Facebook fan pages, letting them know what our rates are. If they want to get a party bus from here to go over to New Orleans we can work something out with a big 15 passenger van and we take them and bring them back to New Orleans and come back after the Super Bowl,” says Driftwood Motel Manager, Shane Nixon.

The hospitality industry isn’t the only one expected to see a boom in business. According to manager Shan Mahmood, Gulf Coast Cards and Sports Memorabilia in the Edgewater is already starting to see a rise in customers head of the big game.

“I’ve called and made a bunch of orders today this morning. We’ve sold out of a lot of Eagles things over this past weekend. So we got more of that hopefully on the way this weekend. We’ve got Chiefs stuff as well. We’re trying to stock up and take advantage of this rare opportunity that happens every ten years or so in New Orleans. It’s a good opportunity for people who are coming down to this area that haven’t necessarily been here before. They can come here, see that we’ve got a ton of different stuff for different teams but specifically those two teams we’ll be loading up on for sure.”

And when it comes to feeding those hungry fans, Woody’s in Gulfport feels they have the victory formation.

“We have a big restaurant ready to sit you. We have drink specials, we’re going to have some food specials, we’re going to do a few raffles, and we’re also going to give away a big screen tv.  We’re excited and ready to go,” says manager Alexis Darby.
