Bus accident first responders appreciation in Biloxi
Today Merit Health and the City of Biloxi partnered to host a picnic honoring first responders, in appreciation for their hard work in the aftermath of the tragic train-bus collision two weeks ago that killed four people and injured dozens.
All public safety personnel and emergency workers who responded to the tragic accident on March 7th and even citizens and clergy who assisted were all invited to come out and enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, music and good company in downtown Biloxi.
News 25 spoke with a few first responders who appreciated the gesture, saying it feels nice to be recognized for their efforts during a tragedy that still weighs heavily on their minds.
Chief Flight Nurse for Flight Care Russel Shoultz said, “When a large event like the train accident occurs, it brings a lot of light to emergency responders that normally do these types of activities on a daily basis.”
Sergeant Thomas Goldsworthy with Biloxi PD said, “Very few times in this job or any job as a first responder do people go and take time out after a major incident and show their appreciation. They did a lot today by just cooking and talking and interacting.”
The Biloxi and Biloxi Bay chambers of commerce also are helping sponsor the affair.
