Burglaries on the rise in Jackson County

A string of burglaries in Jackson County leads to numerous arrests and the seizure of thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen property.
Summer is the peak season for burglaries due to the number of people leaving their house and car unattended during vacations. In the past four days, there have been 11 burglaries in D’Iberville and seven in Jackson County.
Sheriff Mike Ezell tells News 25 the simple reason for the crime rise could be a result of residents letting their guard down. “Over 90 percent of the cars that have been hit over the summer, the cars have been unlocked. Most of the times they know that people don’t lock their cars and they leave things in there. So, they’ll just go through the neighborhood and they’ll just open doors. They’ll find them open and they’ll go through them.”
Jackson County investigators recovered stolen IDs, credit cards, and thousands of dollars in cash.
