Buoys added in Back Bay Biloxi
This morning, Keesler Air Force Base and the Department of Marine Resources teamed up to install buoys in the Back Bay.
In the past, security forces members have had issues with boaters trespassing onto Keesler. Even though signs on land identify Keesler as government property.
This project took almost two years of research and coordination with the 81st Security Forces Anti-Terrorism Office, 81st Training Wing Legal Office, and the Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C.
81st Security Force Squadron Commander Jonathan Murray tells News 25 these buoys are vital to base security. “For the base, this is highly important as we enter an area of where we are trying to heighten security of the base in order to protect the base and the population to let everyone know where the base boundaries are at. It is always important. It allows people to know where they can and can’t go and as we elevate force protection conditions and a higher sense of security we are able to know if anyone is coming onto the base that has no purpose of being on here and this is what this brings to the table.”
They installed 15 buoys 150 feet away from the Keesler shoreline.
