Bridge United Methodist Church offered drive-thru communion

One of the many disruptions COVID-19 has had on normal life is the ability to attend church services.

The Bridge United Methodist Church in D’Iberville offered drive-thru communion for its congregation. Members drove up, received a prayer blessing, and then were handed their communion, individual pods containing grape juice and a wafer.

This was the first time the church has held such an event. Earlier on during the coronavirus shutdown, the Bridge had done virtual communion with members using whatever they had in the house to participate.

Longtime Bridge member Christina Gartman explains while the congregation hasn’t been able to all physically gather together, they’re still finding ways to interact. “We have been communicating through text and emails and whoever is in need of help, anything, we’ve been there for each other. So, it’s not because of the pandemic that everyone is absent, we don’t hear from each other. We are constantly in contact. We do still have our hopes up. I hope– I am going to stay today and I know that we are just limited to a certain number of people, so I am going to take advantage of the fact that I am here today and I am going to be inside.”

The Bridge, like many other churches, livestreams its services on Facebook every Sunday at 10 a.m.
