Bridge over I-10 at Menge Avenue to open next week

The bridge over Interstate 10 at Menge Avenue will be open next week.

Bill Lavers, executive director of the Harrison County Development Commission, said the contractor has said the bridge will open at 2 p.m. Monday.

The bridge has been out of commission since July 5, 2023, while the widening project was under way to add another lane to the interstate — and the bridge.

Funded by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors and Buc-ee’s, the interchange project involves replacing the Menge Avenue bridge over I-10, widening entrance and exit ramps and widening Firetower Road.

The original bridge has been removed and replaced. As the project nears completion, crews are finishing paving work, installing permanent striping and adding signage. Motorists should continue to be on high alert for roadside workers.
