Brian Kelly officially named next head football coach at LSU
It’s official! Brian Kelly has left Notre Dame to become the next head football coach at LSU.
The university confirmed the hire today, announcing Kelly agreed to a 10-year $95 million contract with incentives.
Kelly spent the last 12 seasons at Notre Dame where he amassed a school record 113 victories, led the Irish to a BCS title game, and two College Football Playoff appearances.
In 31 years as a head coach with various teams, Kelly has 284 wins, which is first among all active FBS coaches, ahead of both Alabama’s Nick Saban and North Carolina’s Mack Brown.
Kelly replaces Ed Orgeron, who held the position of head coach for the last five seasons, guiding the Tigers to a national championship over Clemson in 2020.
The Tigers finished the 2021 season at 6-6 and are now awaiting a bowl game bid.
LSU will formally introduce Kelly tomorrow at noon.
