Brett Phillips Named Southern League Player of the Week
The Southern League announced today that Biloxi Shuckers outfielder Brett Phillips has been named its Player of the Week.
Phillips batted .269 with four home runs, eight RBIs and seven runs scored over the previous week. His runs, extra base hits, total bases and home run totals either led or tied for the league lead over the last week. The highlight of the week was when Phillips helped to snap a four game losing streak by blasting a trio of home runs at Pensacola on Saturday, one short of the league record, while collecting six RBIs in the contest. “It was a good week, a good stepping stone for my career,” said Phillips, “Just a matter of catching stride and using that good week behind me for the next week to come and helping the team do whatever it is to win.”
The six RBIs on Saturday night matched a Shuckers club record as well. Phillips is rated by MLB.com as the Brewers number two overall prospect.
