Brett Favre Headed to the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame

Tomorrow, Brett Favre will be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. Brett spent 16 seasons with the Packers, his career highlighted by winning Super Bowl 31.
Brett was born in Gulfport and his career started on the Coast in Kiln, Mississippi. Today, News 25’s Bryan Kennedy went to Hancock County and caught up with the people who know him the best.
When you roll into the Kiln, it doesn’t take too long to see his name. It is easy to see how much pride Brett Favre has brought to people in his hometown.
Joe Overal taught Brett in 5th grade, long before he would become a famous quarterback. “He was a good student and a good athlete. We used to, at recess, choose up teams and play each other. He was the captain of the other team and I was the captain of one.”
Eddie Favre, Brett’s 9th and 10th grade teacher, said, “I’ve always suspected it because he had a God-given ability and he could throw a football like somebody would a baseball. He just had a very powerful arm.”
Brett Favre used that God-given ability to throw 508 touchdown passes in the National Football League. Favre wore number 10 for the Hancock County Hawks and then went on to play for Southern Miss. In 1991, he was drafted in the 2nd round of the NFL draft to the Atlanta Falcons, but it was in Green Bay where he left his mark.
“He’s the son of an icon and he’s become an icon himself,” said Eddie Favre, Brett’s 9th and 10th grade teacher, “I’m very proud of him and I think Green Bay should really be proud that he blossomed while playing for them.”
Favre still holds the records for the most passes attempted, completed and passing yards in a career, all adding to the Kiln legend that is Brett Favre.
Sixty-seven thousand tickets were available for tomorrow’s induction ceremony at Lambeau Field in Green Bay; they were sold out within hours.
Locals say if there’s one word to describe their feelings for Favre: it’s proud. “We are, especially me. He deserves every accolade he gets,” said Eddie Favre.
If you would like to watch Favre’s induction ceremony, it will be available on the NFL Network at 8 p.m.
