Brandon Smith pleads guilty to second-degree murder

A Moss Point man and former missionary says he does not remember stabbing and killing a pregnant Mississippi woman because he was high on drugs.

Thirty-six year-old Brandon Colby Smith pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of 30-year-old Elizabeth Corene Jones.

His testimony stated he remembers calling Jones about buying drugs the night of her death, but nothing else. Jones was killed in 2017 at the home she shared with her boyfriend and four children.

Smith was high on the prescription painkiller opan and was arrested on unrelated charges after authorities found him asleep in his car.

Investigators linked blood in the car and on his clothes to blood on Jones’ shoes.

Smith has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, 10 years of supervised release and fined $5,000.
