Brandon Elliott discusses housing on the Coast
One housing company is holding up the Gulf Coast as a destination for homebuyers. Brandon Elliot believes it is.
The local home builder spoke at the Knight Nonprofit Center to share his vision of the Coast’s future, which includes free fiber-optic internet for all and other amenities that would make it more attractive for home buyers.
With housing getting more expensive, especially in metropolitan areas, Elliot believes Mississippi could soon see a wave of new transplants.
Yesterday, News 25 aired a story on the rising prices of rent on the Coast, so today we asked Elliot why he believes that is happening. “We have an area that we’re used to running — call it 1,700 permits a year, historically, and we have a trade base to support that and a supply chain to support that. But today we need to run that up to 2,500 permits a year. And because we don’t have the supply chain and trade base yet to sustain that, we can’t replenish the housing stock that is needed.”
The Gulf Coast has recently welcomed an influx of transplants from the Midwest.
