Brackish gives back
Today in Long Beach, a local restaurant did their part to pull together the community, all to lift up a family that lost their mother last week in a tragic house fire.
Almost a week ago, Erica Trahan, a Gulfport woman and mother of three, lost her life in an overnight house fire. Gulfport Fire Department is still investigating the fatal flames which reached temperatures so high that neighboring houses were damaged in the blaze.
The incident has left two of Erica’s children, still in high school, without a mother or a home. One Coast restaurant has stepped in to take care of a family in their time of need. Brackish Seafood in Long Beach invited the public to purchase fish plates to raise money for the kids, who they’ve known for years. The community support was strong.
Andrew Rodgers with Brackish Seafood tells News 25 that helping the Trahan kids was a no brainer. “Especially hearing that news and them being near and dear to us, what better way to do that than to hold a fundraiser for them? And help out with clothing, food, living expenses, no matter what it is, anything that we can do to help out a family that’s in need.”
A steady stream of customers made their way to Long Beach, going above and beyond to help the Trahans. Kristian Hefley with Brackish Seafood said, “We’ve had people donating one hundred dollar bills and saying keep the change and I think we’ve done really well. I’m hoping to raise at least $1,000 for the family, but we’ll have to see how that goes.”
