BP legislation update: House Bill 1185

BP settlement legislation, House Bill 1185, heads to conference committee of the Mississippi House and Senate.
Six business organizations like the Mississippi Chamber of Commerce and the Gulf Coast Business Council approved a letter with the business community’s desired outcomes for the conference legislation. The letter is addressed to Speaker of the House Philip Gunn and Lt. Governor Tate Reeves.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce CEO Adele Lyons tells News 25 the next step is for the conference committee to attempt to settle where and how the BP money will be spent. “Again and again and again we talk about how the Coast has not fully recovered following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The money rightly deserves to be spent here on the Coast on transformational projects. We are trying to assure that happens.”
Lyons noted the committee will meet over the weekend and a decision will be made on the legislation possibly next week.
