Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County Appreciation Day
On the last day of their summer program, the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County took time to show its appreciation for members of the community that has helped make the program possible, including Supervisor Melton Harris.
This afternoon, the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County recognized Moss Point and Jackson County leaders for their help with getting the Sue Ellen Recreation Center ready for its summer program.
While following the CDC guidelines, 65 children participated in the two months of activities which included an academic enrichment program through Moss Point schools.
Supervisor Harris was a big advocate of the club and made sure the recreation center was repainted and refurbished in order to house the summer program. Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County CEO Catherine Glaude said, “You know, Mr. Melton is maybe one and a million because he’s so passionate. He’s so pleasant. That doesn’t happen. And I’m not talking about anybody– I’m just saying he was just always so pleasant because I’m not the pleasant person all the time, but I’m just saying he was always positive. He was compassionate about people. Not just about Boys and Girls Club, about his community, about the people. He lived in Pascagoula, but Moss Point I think was something special to him and I know this is his district, but having people like that with power and influence and can make things happen is important.”
Currently, the club still plans to begin its after school program on August 9th. COVID protocols for this program will be determined in the coming weeks.
