Boys and Girls Club hosts ‘My Hair, My Crown’ self-esteem project

The Boys and Girls Club in partner with Dove hosted its first ever My Hair, My Crown self-esteem project.

The event, held at the Great Southern Club, hosted over 125 young girls from across the Coast who listened to several panelist.

Three separate groups of panelists took the stage for discussions. The first group focused on mental health in young women. The second group focused on physical care and beauty stereotypes. The final group featured women in different age groups who were able to provide different perspectives on a variety of topics. Boys and Girls Club Sr. Director of Operation Morgan Bogolin said, “It’s been great. We filled the room. We’re at capacity with the room, and we opened it up to the community as well, so not only are our club members here but there were girls and parents in the community that said this was something that I need my daughter to hear and so they’re here with their daughters and we’re so excited to expand it in years to come.”

The program primarily targets middle and high school girls.
