Boys and Girls Club break ground on new unit in East Biloxi

Boys and Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast held a groundbreaking celebrating the new East Biloxi club.

The new East Biloxi unit used to house the East Biloxi Head Start Program before Katrina. Now, it will be home to the life-changing programs of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast.

The north wing of the building will serve as a teen workforce development center, equipped with an innovative maker space.

The middle portion of the building will support space for kindergarten through eighth graders for essential programming in the areas of academic success, character, and leadership.

The south wing of the building will serve as a community center and meeting area with a large open space and a performing arts stage. Boys and Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast CEO Keva Scott said, “The Boys and Girls Club started in East Biloxi. So, it’s always been really important for our organization and me in particular to make sure that we brought the Boys and Girls Club back. So, inside of this new facility we will have a STEM lab. Students will be able to learn science, technology, engineering, and math. We will have an art studio. Who knows if the next group of artists will come out of this club?”

This new location is ideal for the services offered by Boys and Girls Club and is in proximity to Nichols Elementary students and low incoming housing neighborhoods.
