Bond is set for Jackson County Man Accused of Murder
Bond has been set for the Jackson County man accused of killing a man in Vancleave Monday night.
Fifty-seven year-old Mose Ben Wells made his initial court appearance in Jackson County today before Judge Larry T. Wilson.
The victim’s mother says the man charged with her son’s murder recently pulled a knife on her son. He also warned the family of his intentions to kill her son, Eric Hampton, before he was shot to death.
Jackson County Judge Larry T. Wilson set Wells’ bond at $100,000 at his initial court appearance on a murder charge today.
Authorities say Hampton died at a local hospital after Wells shot Hampton in Vancleave on Monday night.
Hampton’s mother, Darlene Hughse, says the two men were living together on McGregor road where the shooting happened. She lives on the same road and says Wells stopped by her house weeks ago and told the family he wanted to kill Hampton.
She tells News 25 Wells and her son were once good friends. “This man use to live in my house. We put him up. His family wasn’t here. Nobody let him live here. We put him on our couch when the ice was on the ground. Put him on our couch, let him wash his clothes, let him get a bath. I don’t understand it.”
Hampton’s family tells News 25 her son was a good person who loved kids and had seven of his own. They say Hampton will be missed dearly by his relatives.
Hampton’s mother says the bond set for Wells couldn’t be high enough. She says she is just hoping for justice.
