Body identified as missing Pascagoula man
The decomposed body of a missing Pascagoula man that was found in a wooded area of Moss Point on April 13th has now been identified.
Jackson County Deputy Coroner Carole Fagan identified the body as 26-year-old Shawn Martin based on the victim’s dental records. Martin had been missing since March 21st.
His family said he was supposed to be headed to Atlanta. After he went missing, pictures of Martin were posted on multiple social media platforms pleading for information.
Martin’s family and friends posted flyers asking for information that would lead them to Martin’s whereabouts. The family also offered a $10,000 reward to find him.
A search team for Martin found his remains in a wooded area off Monarch Street.
News 25 spoke with Coroner Fagan who says the cause and manner of death is still under review by the state examiner’s office in Jackson. “The medical examiner’s office does have a few more things they need to do before they can give us a cause and manner. If they do come back that it is a homicide or something like that then we want to make sure that everything is done and it is done correctly, but it may take another week or so.”
Police are still working on figuring out what exactly happened to Shawn, but as News 25 gets more information we will update you.
If you have any information about this case, you are urged to contact Moss Point Police Department at 228-475-1711 or Crime Stoppers at 877-878-5998.
A candlelight service set to honor Martin’s life will be held this Wednesday, April 24th at Pascagoula Beach Park at 6:30 p.m.
