Boats Arrive for the 2016 Billfish Classic

Boats rolled into the Point Cadet Marina by the dozen to prepare for one of the top fishing tournaments in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic has grown into one of the premiere fishing tournaments in the world. This year’s tournament includes 80 boats from Key West to Corpus Christi and every point in between.
Tournament cash prizes now exceed one million dollars, attracting some of the top captains and crews in the sport. Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic Director Bobby Carter said, “Based on 80 plus boats, we’re looking at a total purse between one and a half to 1.6 million dollars. That’s a lot of money for fish. Everyone come on down and see the show.”
The classic officially kicks off tomorrow with a Miller Lite sponsored dock party at 6 p.m. The scales open on Friday at 3 p.m. and again on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The classic will wrap up with an awards ceremony on Sunday in the Golden Nugget grand ballroom.
