Blue Lives Matter Bill Moves Forward in the Mississippi Senate
A bill to double the penalties for crimes targeting police officers, firefighters, and medics moves forward in the Mississippi Senate. The Blue Lives Matter Bill passes committee and will now head to the full Senate.
The proposal says any crime committed against emergency personnel because of their status would be a hate crime under state law.
State Senator Sean Tindell of Gulfport drafted the bill. He says the measure is needed after police were targeted in Dallas and Baton Rouge.
If the bill passes the Senate, it will move to the House for further work.
