Blood Drive to Benefit Wounded Officer

More than 100 lives are saved thanks to a blood drive held today at the Gulfport Police Station to honor a severely wounded drug enforcement administration officer.
Officer Steve Arnold of Jefferson Parish was shot multiple times while on duty. He remains in critical condition in a New Orleans hospital. The Blood Center and the Gulfport DEA helped the police department collect 34 units of blood. The blood drive ran from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Sergeant Damon McDaniel told News 25 that a lot of fellow officers donated to support. “This is one of the brothers in blue, the brothers and sisters in blue. We have an individual that needs our help as a community, our help as a law enforcement family. Anyone that’s willing to actually come out and donate blood for this cause should actually do that. We need this man to actually receive and be able to continue.”
The community can continue to benefit Officer Steve Arnold. The Blood Center is always in need of blood. For locations and drives, you can log onto thebloodcenter.org.
