Blood donations amid Coronavirus

Growing concerns about the Coronavirus in our state also means the need for blood will be even more crucial.

That is why the Blood Center needs help with blood donations. There will be donation locations set up in South Mississippi to help increase awareness.

The Blood Center is the primary supplier of blood to the Singing River Health System, Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System, Garden Park Medical Center, and Ochsner Hancock Medical Center.

Just in case you are worried, there are already rules and regulations put in place in regards to giving blood at this time. Coastal Regional Coordinator Gina Necaise said, “We want to urge people and let them know that it is safe to donate blood. This isn’t a large social gathering. This is a donation center. You are supposed to be feeling well and healthy to donate blood. You will not be accepted to donate if you are ill or have any symptoms.”

There will be Blood Center donations drives Saturday, March 14th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and March 15th from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Different locations include Gautier, Ocean Springs, and Waveland.
