Blessing of the Classics in Diamondhead
Cruisin’ the Coast spans 11 cities in South Mississippi and one of its now signature events takes place in the City of Diamondhead: Blessing of the Classics.
Over 250 cars paraded seven miles through Diamondhead to be blessed by local faith leaders.
Prayers were said over the cars asking for the safety as drivers take to the roads to explore all the Coast has to offer.
Having been around for only nine years, Blessing of the Classics has quickly become a must-attend event for Cruisers and community members of all ages. Cruisin’ the Coast Executive Director Woody Bailey said, “We got a lot of historical vehicles around and the older folks see them and have a lot of memories and it’s great to teach these kids you know what goes on. All the vehicles nowadays are way different than what these were and so it’s good to let them know what happens. And it’s really neat when I see a child– I remember being in a restaurant not too long ago, about a 15-year-old says ‘I love Cruisin’ the Coast better than I like Christmas.’ I mean that was music to my ears.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, 8,972 cars were registered for Cruisin’. Bailey says total registered cars will be in the 9,000 range by the end of the week.
