Blackwater Brass keeping Mardi Gras alive on the Coast

Local businesses thrive during carnival season. Blackwater Brass is keeping spirits high and bringing Mardi Gras soul to local Coast businesses.

The New Orleans style funk band is playing at local venues and restaurants to help keep customers coming.

Year after year, Blackwater Brass has partied and provided music for Mardi Gras parades from New Orleans to Mobile, Alabama.

But this year, parades were canceled so they’re staying local, going from business to business bringing the Mardi Gras funk.

They practice in Ocean Springs, but claim the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast as their home.

With over ten brass musicians, the band hopes the community will come out and celebrate the spirit of Mardi Gras with them. Manager and Trombone Player Mondo said, “Mardi Gras and music pretty much go hand and hand they’re definitely one in the same and the other. We have the unique opportunity to become a parade brass band where we get to march around all types of Mardi Gras events and do a second line. We like to represent the Mississippi Gulf Coast because when we go out of town, we want to bring those people back here to help out businesses, our local businesses thrive and survive.”

Although Blackwater Brass missed Mardi Gras parades, they’re more than happy to celebrate Mardi Gras right here at home.
