Black Bear Spotting in D’Iberville

Residents in the Longwood Plantation neighborhood are currently on bear watch. This comes after police say a black bear was spotted in the neighborhood just off of Lamey Bridge Road in D’Iberville.
The D’Iberville Police Department posted to their Facebook that there had been a spotting. They also posted a brochure on what to do if you come in close proximity with the animal.
Today, News 25 went to Longwood Plantation and spoke to residents who say the D’Iberville Police Department knocked on all of their doors encouraging them to be on the lookout. Neighborhood Watch Co-Captain Bill Hancock said, “They were putting out flyers. I saw him drive up and I met him at the door and seen he had something and said, ‘What’s going on with this?’ and he said, ‘well, there’s actually been a bear spotted in the neighborhood.’ I thought that was kind of odd. We had an eagle spotted here last year. I guess it is back to nature for us but we’re on bear watch here in Longwood.”
The D’Iberville Police Department is asking the public to report a bear sighting if you see one. To do so, just call 601-432-2199.
