Black Bear M55 found and tagged for tracking near Woolmarket community
One black bear in South Mississippi being found right in our back yard!
M55 is a 175 pound male thought to be between 3-5 years old.
He was found close to Success Road in the Woolmarket community.
M55 was sedated and received a GPS collar.
Biological samples were taken, he was given ear tags and a microchip for tracking.
Wildlife and Fisheries saying new data is always a plus.
The program began in 2003 to track black bears, which are endangered.
The species has grown from 50 bears to more than 150 since then.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife has a website to track bears that were tagged across the Magnolia State.
