Biloxi VFW Post 2434 in need

Organizations across the nation are feeling financial strain due to COVID-19. Locally, one organization in need of help is the Biloxi VFW Post 2434.

Thanks to a number of community involved events, the Biloxi VFW Post 2434 is getting back on their feet. However, there is still a need. “Things are getting better. They have improved over the past two months. We’ve had some leadership changes and that created some additional activities going on. Things are getting better, but we are not out of the woods yet, far from it.”

House Committee Chairman Jim Strzalkowski says the VFW is in need of volunteers, members, and financial donations. Donations are desperately needed and will go directly to post operations and programs. “Donations of any kind are needed. Of course, obviously, cash donations to help us pay the overhead. It’s a big burden just trying to pay the light bill.”

The VFW provides a number of programs and projects like a youth scholarship program, food pantry, educational outreach, community involvement, housing payments, child care, and much more. Strzalkowski says as a nonprofit none of their efforts are possible without funds. “There’s a lot that can be done and if we’re not here to help then they have no place else to go.”

For Strzalkowski and other members, the VFW has become a family, one he wants to share with others. “We are here for each other. Sometimes a veteran is a little reluctant to ask for help. We fought in the wars. We put up with a lot. Often, we’re afraid to talk to someone about the problems we face. If you come to a place where people share the same anxieties, that helps.”

The VFW Post is open seven days a week and provides family-friendly live music every Friday and Saturday.
