Biloxi VFW Honors Fallen Pearl Harbor Soldiers
The Biloxi VFW on Veteran’s Avenue also paid their respects and honored the lives lost the day Pearl Harbor was attacked.
Bright and early this morning, veterans from the Biloxi VFW gathered to raise and lower the American flag around the same time Pearl Harbor was attacked 74 years ago. The VFW chose to keep the flag at half-staff after the ceremony, the customary way anyone who flies flags honors a day of tragedy. Master at Arms Donald Miller said, “We lowered the flag. We had a nice reading. We’re not here to celebrate. We’re here to honor the 5,000 sailors that were killed in the sinking of the ships at Pearl Harbor, showing them respect, the backbone that we had. That was the beginning of World War II.”
Miller also told News 25 to make sure anyone who flies a flag knows the days, like today, when your flag should be at half-staff.
