Biloxi VA celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday is a time to remember, celebrate and also act.
That was the message during the annual MLK Day Celebration at the Biloxi VA. King cake was served in honor of Dr. King’s birthday. Veterans and community members filled tables inside the recreation hall to enjoy a special lunch.
The organizer of the Martin Luther King ceremony tells News 25 it means a lot to come together to commemorate everything MLK did in the fight for equality. Program Organizer Vena Culliver said, “It’s near and dear to my heart because it goes back to my family. I can remember my family watching him, listening to his speeches, listen to him pray, listen to all the struggles that he had in his life, Martin Luther King to support us, to fight for us.”
After prayer, a tribute to Dr. King was read, songs were sung, and a presentation was given to showcase MLK’s accomplishment. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is January 15th.
